Exhaust repair: When do I need it?
Exhaust repair is probably the most often provided service. Exhaust failures are usually noticed when the car starts emitting strange noises or when unpleasant smell of exhaust gas finds its way into the cabin. These signals may mean that you need to seek the assistance of a specialist who will assess the condition of the exhaust and make some adjustments.
Exhaust repair service is currently offered at many car repair centers, so in any case you will be able to choose the one which offers services of excellent quality.
The most common exhaust failures
Although an exhaust repair might be needed for many different reasons, the most common problems are divided into two groups:
- Exhaust rust: corrosive cavities are formed due to moisture, salts and the period of operation. Usually, a rust-damaged exhaust is repaired by welding and then, if the damage is very large, its parts can be replaced;
- Misuse and vibration: in these cases the exhaust is repaired by replacing its worn parts (for example, by replacing the flexible sleeve which is considered to be the weakest part of the exhaust system).
When do you need welding and when replacing the exhaust?
If the parts of the exhaust are slightly damaged, welding may be sufficient. However, when the exhaust is in a very poor condition, welding will only be a temporary solution and replacement should be considered. It is important to remember that a properly functioning car exhaust system can reduce the amount of pollutants released into the environment, so it is always important to have your exhaust repaired or replaced in a timely manner.
Silencing the exhaust
People often come to the specialists when the car starts emitting excessive noise. The sound of the exhaust system can be suppressed either reactively or proactively. The active elements, by passing acoustic energy through the active substances, convert it into thermal energy. Reactive elements suppress energy in a different way, it requires using resonant cameras of various sizes. The specialists can select certain enclosed cavities of various sizes to help reduce noise levels. On the plus side, this method of reducing the sound is cheaper than the proactive method, but this system is too bulky, which is quite often consider by the consumers a major drawback. In cases where the sound emitted is caused by exhaust’s failure, the exhaust is repaired or replaced.
